National Audit Office of Lithuania: chemicals from industrial waste water may accumulate in the nature

Having performed an audit of the management of industrial waste water the National Audit Office of Lithuania stated that the potential for ensuring the protection of the aquatic environment from contamination by dangerous chemical substances is not used in Lithuania.
Some 9.000 chemicals and nearly 900 substances are registered in Lithuania. Around 80 per cent of these substances are hazardous to the aquatic environment. Auditor General Giedrė Švedienė said that „Protection of the aquatic environment from such amounts of substances is difficult and expensive. Therefore it is necessary to complete the prevention system. Only separate elements of the system are already operating.“ Read moreMore information

Commemoration of the 22nd Anniversary of the Reestablishment of the NAOL
6 April 2012

5 April 2012 the National Audit Office of Lithuania commemorated the 22nd anniversary of its reestablishment. The celebratory event was attended by former Auditors General, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Audit Loreta Graužinienė, current NAOL staff.

An hour before the event the former Auditors General Rasa Budbergytė, Jonas Liaučius, Vidas Kundrotas and the Chair of Committee on Audit had individual meetings arranged with the NAOL staff. Former Auditors General met with the new staff and with the people they worked together during their term of office to recall the past and to share their ideas on the present day problems and challenges. Those who met with the Chair of the Committee on Audit discussed issues of mutual interest in the area of NAOL relations with parliamentary committees. Read moreMore information

Risks of Preparation for EU Presidency Managed by Plans
3 April 2012

Lithuania will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2013. Up till that time it is necessary to undertake proper preparations to ensure the image of a reliable country taking over and continuing the responsibilities of the presidency. “Understanding the importance of those responsibilities we have performed the audit not in the time when the Presidency is over as in the case of other countries but before it has started. During the audit we evaluated positive developments of preparations for the EU Presidency, assessed risks and provided recommendations in relation to their management”, said the Auditor General Ms Giedrė Švedienė. Read moreMore information
