The National Audit Office will audit LTL 23.4 billion of European Union assistance in 2007-2013

In preparations to audit European Union structural assistance for the period 2007-2013 the NAO has drawn up a Working Strategy for the period. "Such audits are not a natural duty of a Supreme Audit Institution, however, having positively rated our experience in performing EU assistance audits of the previous period the Seimas vested the NAO with this duty again," said the Auditor General Rasa Budbergytë.

The NAO will audit LTL 23.4 billion of EU structural funds assistance, i.e. 64 per cent of the total assistance allocated to Lithuania for 2007-2013.

Pursuant to the Strategy, the annual EU assistance audit will cover not only all the management and control system institutions and action programmes, their efficiency and regularity of the use of funds, but also public procurement, State assistance, environment requirements, equal opportunities, computer information management and maintenance system of the EU structural assistance, information and publicity.

The NAO will submit reports and opinion on the use of the structural assistance in Lithuania to the European Commission on a regular basis. Annual report and opinion will be published on the internet page of the NAO; the Seimas Committee on Audit, Special Investigation Service, as well as Financial Crime Investigation Service will be notified as well.

The Audit Strategy drawn up by the NAO is approved by the European Commission; today it was presented to members of the Seimas Committee on Audit.
