Celebration of the National Audit Office of Lithuania 90th Anniversary

The National Audit Office of Lithuania together with the Parliamentary Audit Committee organized a Conference „Public Audit: helping to manage state property wisely“ on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the National Audit Office of Lithuania that took place in the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania in Vilnius 29 January 2009.

The Conference reviewed the progress Valstybės kontrolė has made in becoming the Supreme Audit Institution for Lithuania and in particular the contribution that we are making to public sector accountability and financial management. It was also an opportunity to introduce the challenges National Audit Office of Lithuania meets in auditing the EU funds.

EU Commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget, Chairman of the European Parliament Committee of Budgetary Control, President and Members of the European Court of Auditors, foreign ambassadors, Deputy Chairman and Members of the Lithuanian Parliament and other Lithuanian high rank officials, Heads of foreign SAIs, management and staff of the National Audit Office of Lithuania as well as media representatives participated in the event.

In the evening of the same day a formal celebration took place in the National Opera and Ballet Theatre where welcoming speeches were delivered by the Chairman of the Lithuanian Parliament, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania and the Chairman of the Committee on Audit of the Lithuanian Parliament. The formal celebration was followed by a ballet performance.
