National Audit Office was mandated to verify compliance of the EU Funds Management and Control System Institutions with the established criteria and to implement functions of Audit Authority for the operational programmes for the use of European Union structural Assistance for 2014-2020.

Auditor General Giedrė Švedienė chaired the Meeting of the Contact Committee of the Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions of the European Union meeting in Vilnius (This meeting was included into the programme of Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council). The National Audit Office completes its Chairmanship of the Contact Committee with this event.

The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania assigned the National Audit Office to conduct audits of European Union structural assistance for the financial period 2007-2013 received in the Republic of Lithuania.

The first Public Audit strategy approved. The Strategy defined public audit mission, strategic goal, determined main directions for the implementation of public audit strategy measures including improvement of public audit process and strengthening of audit quality control.

Amendment of the Law on the State Control specified the main goals and objectives of the State Control, more emphasis was placed on the responsibilities of the Auditor General and Deputies of the Auditor General in the process of government audit.

The VI EUROSAI Congress held in Bonn approved the candidacy of the Auditor General of Lithuania Ms Rasa Budbergytė as the Vice-president of the EUROSAI Governing Board.

The Auditor General approved the Code of Institutional Ethics of the State Control Officers and the Regulation on the Investigation of Violations of Institutional Ethics of State Control Officers.

Public Auditing Requirements were approved by the Auditor General that came into force 1 March 2002.

The Law on the Amendment of the Law of State Control was adopted which defines the National Audit Office (NAO) as the supreme government audit institution, accountable to the Seimas. The law came into force 1 March 2002.

Heraldry Commission under the President of the Republic approved the National Audit Office flag and logo.

Having adopted the Law on the State Control in 1995 and its amendments in 1998 the organizational structure of the State Control was further developed, new working methods based on the best international practice were introduced.
