On Thursday, a meeting between representatives of the Baltic independent fiscal institutions will take place at the supreme audit institution in Vilnius. Representatives of the Fiscal Council of Estonia, the Fiscal Discipline Council of Latvia and the Fiscal Institution of Lithuania will discuss the assessment methods used by the institutions to calculate government budget and fiscal indicators and share their experience of assessing economic development scenarios as well as best practices.

A special focus will be placed on the methodology for estimating general government balance components and fiscal sustainability. Latvian representatives will share the results of tax morale and budget discipline surveys. The institutions will discuss the impact of the financial results of state-managed enterprises on general government balance.

This is the third such meeting of Baltic representatives. Previous exchanges of experience took place in Estonia and Latvia. The acceptance of best practices contributes to the main goal of the independent fiscal institutions which is to achieve stable economic development and a sustainable financial situation in the public sector.

The National Audit Office was mandated to carry out the functions of the independent fiscal institution in 2015. It issues opinions and reports to the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania and makes them publicly available.
