05/02/2019   OECD to carry out review of the Lithuania’s Fiscal Institution

During the 11th Meeting of the OECD Network of Parliamentary Budget Officials and Independent Fiscal Institutions the Auditor General Arūnas Dulkys met with representatives of Budgeting and Public Expenditures of the Directorate for Public Governance, OECD. In the meeting issues relating to strengthening the independence, performance quality, application of best practices and compliance with OECD principles of the Lithuania’s Fiscal Institution were discussed.

“Lithuania’s accession to the OECD in 2018 opens new opportunities to use competences of this Organisation in strengthening the Lithuania’s Fiscal Institution. Last year we agreed with OECD colleagues on the review of the Fiscal Institution. Today we have discussed stages for the implementation of the review and other practical issues related to it”, said Arūnas Dulkys.

The aim of OECD reviews of Independent Fiscal Institutions is to evaluate performance quality of fiscal institutions against the internationally agreed standards (OECD principles), to flag up the challenges and to provide recommendations. The first visit of OECD review team to Vilnius is planned in April this year. The review is planned to be undertaken within six months. The review report is due in September.
