27/11/2019   Third conference SIGNALS 2019: attention towards strategic thinking, value generating change, and income inequality

Today the National Audit Office – supreme audit institution (SAI) - is organising the annual National Conference on Sustainable Development SIGNALS 2019.

The conference participants will hear experts’ experiences in implementing successful changes, as well as insights into why certain reforms are implemented with delay. In view of the fact that every change in the state sooner or later makes a direct impact on the population, the conference will also address the effectiveness of social policy measures in reducing income inequalities.

At the conference, SAI representatives together with foreign professionals will discuss the main challenges which the state is facing and which need to be addressed immediately. This year’s conference motto is LET’S SEE. LET’s CHANGE.

SIGNALS 2019 will be welcomed by the President of the Republic Gitanas Nausėda. The speakers will include: Boris Cournède (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Tytti Yli-Viikari (National Audit Office of Finland), Dr. Paul Joyce (University of Birmingham and Leeds Beckett University, United Kingdom), Mart Laidmets (Ministry of Education and Research of Estonia), Laurent Sens (European Commission) and others. The presentations will address the following topics: most effective avenues for public finance reform, the positive effects of public investment on economic growth, inclusive growth – how to achieve it, from changing our budget to changing our culture.

Three main discussions will be carried out at the conference including participants representing different views: When are the desired change happening? What changes are necessary to reduce the income inequality in Lithuania? and a summarising discussion during which representatives of academia and the public will not only share the insights heard at the conference but will also propose how to implement the signals caught into our activity.

It will be for the second consecutive year that fellow public auditors will be awarded for innovative solutions and important initiatives for change.

The conference is organised by the National Audit Office of Lithuania in partnership with INTOSAI, European Commission Representation in Lithuania, Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science, and the British Council. Information partners: Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT), monthly magazine IQ.

SIGNALS 2019 will be broadcast live at the news portal lrt.lt. For more information please visit the conference website: www.signals.lt/en.
