Press Release
25/01/2021   Experts of the National Audit Office of Lithuania will perform a peer review of the National Audit Office of Finland

Experts of the National Audit Office of Lithuania (NAOL) took part in the virtual kick-off meeting of the peer review team of the National Audit Office of Finland (NAOF). The objective of the peer review is to evaluate whether the NAOF’s ways of working are structured and implemented in a way that brings their audits the best possible impact and whether the planning and auditing processes and related stakeholder practices adequately support the NAOF’s external impact.

The representatives of the NAOL, together with the colleagues from the National Audit Office of Estonia (NAOE), will review the financial, performance and compliance audits of the NAOF, as well as its engagement with stakeholders. The peer review will be carried out in accordance with the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions and following the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Heads of the National Audit Offices of Lithuania, Estonia, and Finland.

The NAOF has initiated this peer review to assess if its audit work is carried out in an effective manner following the good auditing practice and applying the international Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions. The objective is also to provide recommendations on how to further develop its operations to enhance the quality of its audit practices.

The peer review of the National Audit Office of Finland will take place in 2021-2022 and the peer review report and recommendations will be issued in March 2022.

Interestingly, that the National Audit Office of Finland, together with the European Court of Auditors and the Office of the Auditor General of Norway, carried out a peer review of the National Audit Office of Lithuania in 2014, and now the NAOL experts will share their experience and competences with the NAOF. Participation in such a peer review demonstrates the recognition of our institution in the international auditing community.
