25/03/2021   Sharing lessons learnt by the ECA in audit digitalisation with the NAOL staff

Today, the experts from the European Court of Auditors (ECA) shared their best practices and lessons learnt from the digitalisation of audits with the staff of the National Audit Office (NAOL) at a distance online workshop.

At the online workshop, ECA representatives discussed digital leadership, presented the current situation in the digitalisation of audit in the ECA, the plans for the next five years in this field, actual digitalisation projects and cooperation opportunities for auditors with ECALab, a centre for innovation, exploring ideas and technologies and building on the new possibilities offered by digitalisation.

“If it were not for modern technologies, it would be much more difficult to cope with the pandemic facing the world. Digitalisation, innovation and artificial intelligence inevitably become part of our work as auditors. It is good that, despite the fact that all communication is currently taking place remotely, we can continue to maintain close cooperation with colleagues from the European Court of Auditors and to get ideas for digitalisation in the National Audit Office. In the new reality dictated by the pandemic, we try to take innovative working methods and professional solutions from other institutions. The institution invests a lot in the competence of our staff and seeks the highest global standards, therefore this seminar is an excellent opportunity to take over good practice", said Auditor General Mindaugas Macijauskas.

“We can be pleased by the fact that the digital infrastructure being developed by the ECA allows to ensure the continuity of the work of auditors and of the institution as a whole. Recent years have been full of challenges, however with a help of innovative solutions and advanced information technologies, the ECA has not only perfectly adapted to the new working conditions, but also encouraged to undertake new projects. I would like to thank all the participants of the workshop, especially the ECA colleagues for disseminating good practices, professional insights, and future projects. Close cooperation between the ECA and the national supreme audit institutions ensures mutual improvement and excellent results in auditing," says Rimantas Šadžius, Member of the ECA.

The European Court of Auditors is an independent external audit body that audits the EU finances, helps to improve the Community financial management, promotes accountability and transparency. The ECA checks that the EU budget has been correctly implemented, that EU funds have been raised and spent legally, in accordance with the principles of sound financial management.
