Annual report of the European Court of Auditors presented to the National Audit Office

Member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA) Rimantas Šadžius presented to the community the National Audit Office – supreme audit institution (SAI) - ECA 2019 report, the 2021-2025 strategy, the work programme for 2021 and subsequent years, discussed the COVID-19 aspect in ECA audits and shared good practice in dissemination of audit results.

For the period 2021-2022, the main focus of the European Union (EU) auditors is planned to be on the EU response to pandemic COVID-19. Publications on public health, purchase of vaccines, food security and passenger rights are foreseen.

In the coming years, the ECA’s priorities will also cover the EU’s economic competitiveness, climate change, EU security, and EU fiscal policy and public finances. The ECA will continue its efforts to improve accountability and transparency of EU actions.

During the meeting Rimantas Šadžius informed the community of the National Audit Office about an online seminar on audit digitalisation to be held on March 25, where ECA colleagues will share their experience and insights.

The European Court of Auditors is an independent external audit body that audits the EU finances, helps to improve the Community financial management, promotes accountability and transparency. The ECA checks that the EU budget has been correctly implemented, that EU funds have been raised and spent legally, in accordance with the principles of sound financial management.
